Bringing Pride to the World’s Fair,
and Spreading a Message of Love One Meal at a Time
Award-winning chef, author, and activist Art Smith—who was previously Oprah’s personal chef—never misses an opportunity to advance LGBT equality as he travels around the world cooking for dignitaries, celebrities, and other public figures. In addition to working with Barilla Pasta to help strengthen their corporate LGBT initiatives and being a force through the marriage equality fight, he also organized first-ever pride events for international events like the World’s Fair in Milan and the South Beach Wine and Food Festival. “I always like to use food because I call it a ‘polite protest,’” he says. “You feed ‘em, they come. You feed ‘em, they stay. You keep feeding ‘em, and you’re changing things. Food is love. Food is diplomacy.”
